This hostel deserves a mention as they were really the first in Indonesia to install their ‘pod’ style dorms – something that has now become standard in Jakarta and Bali. Six Degrees also chose to be away from the Jalan Jaksa Backpackers area of Jakarta, a street which has seen quite a decline in recent years. The hostel features private rooms and dorms with different numbers of occupants, as well as a kitchen for guests, a rooftop bar and garden, and even a gym. How many hostels have you been to that have a gym? Six Degrees has won several awards, continues to get good reviews and ratings, and so makes it onto our shortlist of the best in Indonesia.
Guests of Six Degrees talk about the friendly service they receive more than any other aspect of the hostel. Comments such as ‘feel at home’ and ‘feel part of the family’ are common, and it really helps create the relaxed, laid-back vibes that many reviews also mention.
The hostel is located in Cikini, which is part of the affluent Menteng suburb of Jakarta. It’s less busy than other areas and is right in the centre of the city and so is well positioned for exploring all corners of this megacity.
